Vianne Timmons, OC - GLOW ED Award Winner 2021

Dr. Vianne Timmons was Vice President of Academic Development at UPEI, President of the University of Regina, and now since April 2020, is the first female President and Vice-chancellor of Memorial University in Newfoundland.

She has extensive teaching experience across Canada with wide-ranging research interests, with particular emphasis on family literacy and inclusive education.

Vianne has held leadership positions in a myriad of organizations, many of which were dedicated to issues in international education: board member for The International Student Exchange Program, chair of Universities Canada’s Standing Advisory Committee on International Relations and chair of the board of the Canadian Bureau of International Education.

In addition to it, Vianne has received numerous awards, including Officer of the Order of Canada in 2017, and the 2019 YWCA Women of Distinction Lifetime Achievement Award. She was also named one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women on four occasions. In all her leadership roles she has highlighted internationalization throughout the institution. As she left PEI, the UPEI International Student Award was renamed in her honour to recognize her dedication and involvement in internationalization during her time there. She has brought that same commitment to internationalization to Regina and now MUN.

Thank you Vianne!
