Roslyn Kunin was born in Quebec and grew up in Montreal where she got her first degree in economics at Sir George Williams (now Concordia) in the evenings while holding down a full-time office job.She married, had two children, moved to Ontario for graduate work and came to Vancouver in 1967 to do her PhD at UBC.

In her career, Roslyn has worked in the private sector, written a weekly newspaper column, and taught at several Canadian universities including SFU and UBC. She served twenty years as Regional Economist for the federal government in BC and the Yukon, and 10 years as the Executive Director of the Laurier Institute.
She is still in private practice as a consulting economist. Roslyn has spent lots of time doing board work for the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research, Haida Enterprise Corporation, WorkSafe BC, Vancouver Stock Exchange, Vancouver Crisis Centre and a myriad of other organizations. Recognition for her work includes the Order of Canada and the Order of BC.
Dr. Kunin has been of great importance to international education as she has authored basically all the major studies on the economic impacts of hosting international students in Canada for their studies at both the federal and BC provincial levels over the past 15 years. Her studies have been completed and up dated in 2006, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2020, the most recent being a summer of 2021 study on the economic impact in Canada of Language Education Programs for international students.
We well remember and are grateful to her for giving her time to Glow Ed at the beginning of the pandemic and presenting a webinar on the economic impact of the pandemic on our industry, our institutions and our communities.
Thank you, Dr. Kunin!
