Catherine Vertesi

Board Chair

Catherine Vertesi has extensive experience with business and international education and post secondary leadership. She spent 20 years at UBC, as an instructor and director of undergraduate business and MBA programs followed by work on campus-wide internationalization initiatives, ESL pathways, and executive education. In 2001 she became Dean of Business at Capilano University and in 2006 was named Vice President Education.

 

Catherine is a multiple award winner for teaching, program innovation, student service and internationalization with lifetime leadership awards from both national and province-wide organizations. In 2012 she was awarded the Woman of Distinction Award for Education in Vancouver and in 2017 she received a PhD in Business Administration (Honoris Causa) from the University of Pecs in Hungary for her pioneering work in international education. She has consulted with universities in Ireland, Switzerland, Hungary, Thailand and Hong Kong and developed faculty International study tours with more than 70 participants from 17 institutions across Canada.

 

After retirement in 2014 Catherine taught twice yearly at the FH Wien University of Applied Sciences in Vienna until 2020. She continues to serve on the board of governors for University Canada West, the board for Global Women in International Education (Glow-Ed) and Eyesight International and remains active in NAFSA and EAIE organizations.
